This artwork was created for the 2016 Desktopography.net release. Paradise Bay was inspired by a trip I took to Mexico in April 2016. I took some great photos of the pyramid at Chichen Itza, as well as the ruins and the beach at Tulum, and I wanted to use them in some sort of digital artwork. Desktopography provided the perfect venue. I took some serious artistic license, crafting a world where new and old, modern and ancient stand side by side in juxtaposition of eachother. Where the water is as blue as the sky, and equally clear. Where the moon stands watch as man and nature peacefully coexist.

I used Adobe Photoshop to piece this composition together, using photos I took from my trip to Mexico as well as some stock imagery. The tone was heavily inspired by various pieces from Dylan Cole's matte painting and artwork.
Here's a quick and dirty breakdown of how this piece came together...
The Desktopography project began in 2005 as a curated collection of nature / topological themed wallpapers created by selected designers. The wallpapers can be downloaded in a variety of sizes and resolutions, and the contributions are always mindblowing. Do yourself a favour and check it out!
It's always such an honour to have my work featured alongside so many other talented artists, designers, and creators. I've been a fan since the start, and have had the honor of contributing a number of times over the years.
